The Registry of Merit Program is designed to encourage sheep and goat breeders to maintain detailed lambing and kidding records and to encourage evaluation of fertility in ewes and does for use in breeding decisions. IDGR-IFBR offers this system in good faith and relies on our members to respond in kind; falsifying records will ultimately only hurt the flock owner. By applying for this program you commit to honestly recording kidding and lambing information. If records are found to be falsified or if the IDGR-IFBR has reason to suspect the information provided is incorrect it reserves the right to throw out suspect records. Any records or awards found to be inaccurate or dishonestly obtained will be stricken from the records; individuals found to be deliberately falsifying records may be barred from further IDGR-IFBR membership and participation in any testing or awards programs.
The Registry of Merit program is open to all IDGR-IFBR registered sheep and goats including Experimentals and Grade animals. All animals participating must be registered before starting the program. Lambings/kiddings must be reported on the IDGR-IFBR PRS-1 Form. Please note, form PRS-1 is not the application for registration for kids/lambs. Each lamb/kid must be registered individually. The PRS-1 form allows for all progeny to be accounted for, not just those registered (i.e. whethers, stillborn, etc). Progeny must be reported by 12 months of age to qualify for the ROM program. Lambs for multiple ewes/does may be reported on a single PRS-1 form (only one species per form). The fee for application will be $10 per calendar year for progeny reporting per member. Does and ewes receiving an award will receive a certificate of award and a reprint of their registration certificate.
To qualify, a ewe or doe** must a) deliver without assistance, and b) have raised to at least 60 days 6 or more offspring by the time she is 4 ½ years of age (55 months). And offspring born to the dam may be counted towards ROM including cross-bred offspring so long as they meet the above requirements.
Adjusted ROM requirements: To qualify, a ewe or doe** must a) deliver without assistance, and b) have raised to at least 60 days 9 or more offspring by the time she is 5 years of age (60 months). Any offspring born to the dam may be counted towards ROM including cross-bred offspring so long as they meet the above requirements.
