Note: Anytime Identification is changed or added to a goat or sheep, this specific information must be kept by the owner/breeder of the animal. If the animal is registered, then the registry must be notified so that the information can be noted. ALL Identification that the animal has ever had MUST be on the Registration Certificate as per USDA rules, in order to identify that this is in fact the same animal.
Note: If an animal already has a scrapie tag, it is against USDA rules to place another scrapie tag in the goat. One is ALL that is allowed.
Note: If tattooed and then a scrapie tag is affixed to the animal, please do not cover up the tattoo with the tag. Also, a scrapie tag owner cannot place their tag in the goat/sheep of an animal they do not own.
If a veterinarian has to place a scrapie tag in goat/sheep for transport a copy of the veterinarian Health certificate stating the change of ID and needs to be sent to the IGSCR Office.
Note: Scrapie tags may not (by USDA rules) be taken out for cosmetic reasons. If taken out it may only be done by certain types of professionals and they must keep the information below. If the tag falls out, the owner of the animal can put in a new ID and must do so. Animals who do not have one of the three legal Identification types and verified that this animal is in fact the correct animal will not be registered by IGSCR.
If your Identification code for Scrapie, microchip, or tattoo changes, please let IGSCR know right away on this form so that we can make that adjustment.
Why all this? Well, if we want correct registrations, then this information must be known. Many people are covering up tattoos with scrapie tags or taking out Scrapie tags. Failure to comply may nullify a previous registration certificate or prevent registrations at all because without the correct ID for that animal, we don’t know it is the same animal. This is also as per IGSCR and USDA rules. Handled on a case by case basis.
We have had to implement this form, unfortunately, because too many people are not aware of the seriousness of Identification, changes and additions. There are thousands of red goats, for instance. We are an official registry. As such, we have to be able to stand behind our registrations. We need your help. Thanks much!
